In 1940, Ned Nickles, an untrained designer, was hired by Buick. Before long his styles made him a leader. He introduced bold grilles and portholes. The hardtop coupe was also his claim. By the 1950's Buick sales had increased dramatically.
The beautiful Skylark was designed by Ned in 1953 for Buick's 50th anniversary. About 1,690 were produced and sold for approximately $5,000.00. A new lighter and shorter version of the car with a different body style was introduced in 1954.
One of 836 produced, the 1954 Buick Skylark two-door convertible has a professional grounds-up restoration. The car, finished in black, has big gleaming chrome fins, "teethy" front grille and front and back wide-open wheel houses. These features have made the '54 Skylark model one of the most rare and desirable cars Buick has produced.
