The beginning of Chevrolet's Pony Car, the Camaro, was in 1967. It was introduced to compete with Ford's Mustang. The car was unique in that you could build your own car using different variations of the multitude of options available...no less than 81 factory and 41 dealer-installed options!
In 1969 Henry Haga, Chevrolet's designer at the time, introduced a new body style. It was a longer lower car with contoured sides and won the 1969 Car and Drivers Magazine poll as the year's best sporty car. It was a part of the Muscle Car genre and became the in-town street racing dream car.
