William Lyons and William Walmsley began their Swallow Sidecar Company in a shed. They were making car bodies as early as 1931, when their first car, the Swallow was developed. In 1943, the name was changed to Jaguar to indicate a more powerful and sleek car. Production stopped during the war, but resumed shortly thereafter. At that time, their XK engine was developed and used for the next 38 years.
The white 1955 Jaguar Drop Head XK 140 Coupe, with its beige rag top, was a very exciting and pleasurable car. The styling demonstrates its sleek lines, superior craftsmanship and classic simplicity. Its sporty design and handling ease make this car as desirable today as when it was produced. The interior has handsome dials and is trimmed in rich walnut wood. Wire spoke wheels enhance its sporty appearance. Its odometer reading of 84,808 original miles and its thorough restoration make this Drop Head a superb addition to any collection.
