Charles Rolls and Henry Royce founded the Rolls Royce Motor Car Company in 1904 upon the sound financial advice of Claude Johnson. Their first car, a 10 HP model, was tested at that time.
As were all Rolls Royces, the car was custom-bodied until they began body production at the Crewe plant in 1949. Charles Rolls died in a plane crash in 1910 leaving Royce in control of all aspects of car production until his death in 1933, the year of our car.
