The Sports Roadster is thought by many to be the most desirable of the Thunderbirds of the sixties. Ford, being under pressure to build a two-seat roadster again decided, under the direction of Lee Iacocca, to design an alternative.

The result was a tonneau cover which hid the back seat and extended up to the head rests. It gave the auto a very aerodynamic look and made it very streamlined and refined.
