~~Oil & Gas~~

The first well drilled in Ohio was in Washington County at Macksburg. This occurred almost simultaneously with the first well at Titusville, Pennsylvania. Wooden derricks and central single cylinder pumping engines dotted the countryside in the mid 1800's. These wells were a huge contributing factor to the growth of many small and then unknown communities.
