A primitive is defined as an object old, simple and plain, resembling manner and style of long ago. The primitive embodies our American heritage. It expresses the cleverness of craftsmanship and its application to a particular need. Many primitives were one-of-a-kind or of limited manufacture.

Old frontier cabins were endowed with a variety of these items. Some early respected primitives would include handwrought iron, homemade tools, handthrown stoneware, carved wooden utensils, wooden utilitarian furniture and folky type crafts made for hobby and amusement.

Our collection encompasses over 75 items, divided into 6 classifications. An early grouping of stoneware, with handbrushed and early blue stencil work accentuates this gathering. A 12" brown mottled graniteware coffee pot represents the quality of the cast iron, brass and early metalwares. Within the furniture grouping is an early black painted Hitchcock type rocker. The Folk Art classification contains many rare and unique objects representing the country American artist. Tools and early lamps finish out this spectacular collection.
